ISKA - Bad Site
ISKA: International Sport Kickboxing Association
Fighters, protect yourselves at all times. Wait, what website?
For those of you who are not familiar with amateur combat sports, this may be a new site for you. ISKA is a pretty cool organization that has helped to develop some of the most formidable kickboxers and mixed martial artist today. ISKA has two main divisions: Kickboxing and MMA. This site contains rules, weight classes, past and upcoming events, videos, etc.On a personal note, I have competed in some of these events and it was a ton of fun. So, I definitely have a personal bias...That I will have ZERO problems putting aside because the website needs some help.
For starters, the website is 'iskasportmma.com'. Which does not really embody the main marketing of the organization as a whole, as the name of the organization is 'International Sport Kickboxing Association'. Which stands to reason that Kickboxing is their business. Now, I understand why MMA is leveraged as the popularity of Mixed Martial Arts has grown by staggering rates over the past five to ten years.
While their navigation bar does take to you all of the locations that it says it will so it functions. However, there is one tab that doesn't see to make its way onto the main bar: Contact.
While this could be a clever joke because ISKA does have a 'light contact' tournament series. See what I did there? 'Light contact' and the contact tab, that is in white lettering, does not fit on the menu bar that is a dark background and is much harder to see on the lighter background. 'Light Contact'. This is probably a stretch though. Especially when considering the black background that is reminiscent of monochromatic interpretation of a Jackson Pollock work. Which could very easily be interpreted as blood spatter, given the subject matter of martial arts and fighting.
While the navigation bar does respond appropriately to where the user wants to go, sometimes there is very little reason for doing so. Both Rankings and Results have been blank every time I have been on this site as well. The events tab, which is probably one of the most important tabs for an organization whose sole product revolves around martial art events, only has information for an event that took place on July 2019, at the time of this posting(Aug 2019).
As we continue to scan the page, there may be a slight bit of eye strain as we encounter a crazy amount of contrast. Along with some buttons that look suspiciously like McDonald's golden arches.
Clicking on the Spectator Tickets button takes the user to a dead screen. Not even a notification that the event has expired. Not ideal, considering that a user that is clicking on that button is likely ready to give the organization money.
Even though Bad Ass martial artists have come through this promotion and many continue to, this is BAD. Keep your hands up and chin down ISKA or ISKAMMA.com or whatever you are calling yourself these days.
